What is an RD or RDN?

Registered Dietitians (RD) are also known as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN). They are credentialed nutrition professionals that undergo rigorous schooling and professional training. Unlike other nutritionists, most Registered Dietitians have their master’s degree in Nutritional Science and have done 1200 hours of supervised practice in a hospital, school, and other settings. After completing this lengthy training, Registered Dietitians must pass a national certification test and complete 75 continuing education hours every 5 years to remain eligible to practice.

Registered Dietitians are considered food and nutrition experts, translating the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living. The expertise, training and credentials that back a Registered Dietitian are vital to separate facts from fads and translate nutritional science into information that is easy to use. A Registered Dietitian can put you on the path to eating healthfully and reducing your risk of chronic disease.
